    1807

Once more Gauss left Brunswick and returned to Göttingen, so he could take up the position of the town's observatory. One year later a line of fatality swept the Gauss family. His Carl's father passed away, followed by Johanna his loving wife while giving birth to their second son, who was also destined the same fate. Torn apart by these events Gauss asked the observatory if he could take a few weeks off.
